Fascinating insight in to Iraq in the 1950s. The country is steeped in a rich history and culture. The very beginnings of civilisation started here and where man began cultivating the land and where writing was conceived. It even used to be a tourist hot spot. The region now known as Iraq has always been, in many ways, world history's ground zero. From this rich territory sprang the earliest cities and empires, earliest armies, and earliest tyrants. The Kings: From Babylon To Baghdad tells the story of Iraq through the history of its rulers, from Sargon the Great to Saddam Hussein. This feature-length documentary explores the connections and relevance between ancient and modern Iraq and between Iraq and the rest of the planet. Using dialogue drawn directly from primary sources - original texts of ancient records - it depicts events in dramatic, living reenactments. Lush cinematography filmed on location frames the dramatizations and contemporary reportage. And interviews with the world's leading experts on the historical and current relevance ...

In the years after the Iraq war increasing numbers of ordinary Iraqis became embroiled in the battle between coalitions forces and Iraqi militants. But just why have the Americans failed to convince Iraqi's that they have come as liberators - and not occupiers? Journalist Inigo Gilmour spent seven weeks for Channel 4 News comparing events inside the Greenzone - the heavily fortified US military garrison in Baghdad - with that of Sadr City - a poor and over-populated suburb that is also Baghdad's largest Shia neighbourhood. He discovered that despite good intentions, the American military is failing comprehensively in the most important battle of all - the one to win hearts and minds. First broadcast 14 April 2004

Farsi/Nat Iran's foreign minister arrived in Baghdad on Friday for talks to solve issues connected to the 1980-1988 war between the two countries. The visit by Kamal Kharrazi is the first high-level encounter between the countries in Baghdad in ten years. Both Kharrazi and his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf expressed hope that their discussions, which will last several days, will lay a groundwork to normalise ties which are still strained over a host of outstanding problems. The visit follows a meeting between Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan following the summit meeting of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held in Caracas last month. Kharrazi told reporters on arrival in Baghdad that Iran wa...
